West Street is located in the center of Yangshuo County. It is the oldest street in the County with a history of more than 1400 years. The street is 1180m long and 8m wide. As early as the foundation of the Yangshuo County in Sui Dynasty (in 590), the west street was existed. It was just 200m long and 5m wide at that time. And now the street has developed into the busiest street in Yangshou and knows as “Foreigners’ Street”.
Since the early 1970s, Yangshuo opened to foreign tourists. Many oversea friends come to the amazing street after appreciating the beauty of Li River. More and more foreign tourists came to this street since than and the street seems to be the rest harbor for them.
There are bars, restaurants, handcrafts shops, Chinese painting and Calligraphy shops and some other shops decorated in both Chinese and Western styles. Even the old ladies who sell fruits on the street could speak some simple English. In the street, you can see many tourists with different color of skins seat together, drinking and talking happily.
